A family tradition passed down

A goal for me this year it to make sure that I start capturing more of my own family and the little moments!! I want to utilize the gift I have been blessed with to save our memories. So why not start with one our family’s favorite traditions!!!!

One of our favorite things to do in our family is cook! My love of food has come from a long line of amazing cooks in our family. My grandparents were all such amazing cooks. Well, except for my Grandpa Battle who would give me a bowl of cereal when I asked what was for breakfast during the summer. He still laughs every time he tells that story and how he would say to me “You have the wrong grandpa!!!!”  However, my Grandma Battle would make the best fried fish and brunswick stew you ever did try!! And my Grandma and Grandpa Snipes made the best country cooking that made your mouth water when you walked into the house and was greeted with the delicious aromas.

So, I have been exploring cooking with our son!! To pass down some of my love for food and cooking. I asked him what he wanted to learn how to make and he said cookies… surprise, surprise! So I had to show him how to make the best soft baked chocolate chip cookies!!! I think he thoroughly approved!! My hope is that he looks back on his childhood and remembers these sweet memories!! And when he does, I will have pictures for him!!

Coyle Family Soft Baked Chocolate Chip Cookies

INGREDIENTS

1.5 cups of flour

1 egg

1/4 c. brown sugar

1/2 c. sugar

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

8 tbs butter

1 c. semi sweet chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Melt the butter over low heat in a sauce pan. In a mixer, add the brown sugar and sugar, and mix together with the melted butter. Mix until completely incorporated!! Next, add the vanilla and egg, and mix until incorporated. (NOTE do not mix too long as this will make the cookies hard). Now add in the flour, baking soda and salt. Mix until dough forms. Add the chocolate chips.

Roll cookie dough into balls and place on a cookie sheet. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes!! Let cool… or be a rebel like us and eat them immediately!!!

Makes approximately 12 cookies
