How to Get Started on Tik Tok

How to get started on Tik Tok for your business: 5 tips shared by Tik Tok and Reels educator Natasha Coyle

The last couple of weeks we have been looking at Instagram and Tik Tok for your business, but I want to take some time today to focus specifically on Tik Tok. Tik Tok has changed rapidly in the last 2 years. I know when it first came out and was recommended for business owners, we all thought it wouldn’t last long – and it was just a trend. But, now, Tik Tok is the fastest growing social media app with NO signs of stopping. And, if you’re looking to grow your business or brand online, it’s a great tool to reach your goals.

Despite that, we still see so many business owners who are hesitant to start on Tik Tok. There’s already a lot to do as business owners. Or maybe you don’t want to dance or point – or aren’t sure your ideal clients aren’t really on Tik Tok.

I GET it.

But what if I told you that there are ways to show up on Tik Tok that have an amazing return on your investment of time?  And that you do not need to point or dance (I pinky promise!). And what if I told you that your ideal clients may not be creating on Tik Tok, but they are definitely consuming it? Today, I want to share a few tips to help you get started on Tik Tok!

#1: You need to watch Tik Tok!

I know this sounds simple but this is one of those steps that so many skip. Looking at Tik Tok videos to understand the format is crucial to help you determine what Tik Tok videos that you want to create. If you don’t know what you’re trying to make, how will you make it?

#2: Pick your niche!

You have to decide who your account will be for. For me, I am a wedding photography account that helps brides and photographers with tips and relatable content. Your niche will likely look different.

#3: Use Tik Tok’s native features and tools!!

I know that there are a ton of apps out there to help you, and I use them for advanced filming. But, I truly believe you should use the native tools when first starting Tik Tok… At least until you gain account credibility and authority. This also makes things a bit easier for you in terms of physically filming!

#4: Aim for watch time and completion rates.

You can film up to 10 minutes on some accounts, but if you are just starting out try to keep your videos between 10-18 seconds. A higher watch completion rate will help your videos continue to be pushed to the for you page. Remember, there is a strategy to this.

#5: Try out trends!

One of the quickest ways to grow on Tik Tok is using trending sounds or videos! If you are able to relate those trends to your niche, it can help your videos be seen. People like consuming the popular content, so use that to your advantage.

If you are ready to start posting on Tik Tok, it really is as simple as deciding what content is the right fit for you and going for it. Utilizing this platform can help you grow your reach when used with a plan! Stay tuned over the next few weeks as more resources are available to help you get started on Tik Tok and Instagram Reels!
