Charleston Merchants Hall Reception

A summer wedding with a Charleston Merchants Hall reception is always a good one! We call this one Schoonover 2.0! A year ago, our world was so different. Weddings and events were cancelled/postponed. Couples mourned their dream days in silence, because the world had “bigger problems”. But to our couples, it was really devastating to make tough decisions about their days with so many unknowns.

Audrey and Grant planned to be married on 6.6.20 with all of their loved ones in attendance. Instead they had an intimate ceremony at Summerall Chapel with their immediately family who could attend. I spent the day with them, getting ready with their family, watching Grant tear up as the doors of the chapel opened to see Audrey and her dad walking towards him, and having an empty Charleston to capture portraits.

 

Schoonover 2.0

So much has changed in a year. And on June 6, 2021,  it was time to celebrate the way that Audrey and Grant had intended. Everyone dressed back up, Audrey’s brother who was in Japan last year was finally able to join the bridal party, and all of their family flew in to celebrate their one year anniversary with a reception.

Getting Ready

This post would not be complete if we didn’t take a peek back into Audrey and Grant’s actually wedding day. I wanted to highlight a few of my favorite getting ready photos because they are so very special. When I arrived, I was met by their moms and from that moment on, it felt like this was the day they were supposed to have all along. It was small and it was intimate. Their family and bridal party was by their side. And, although the day wasn’t exactly as planned with the full guest list in tow, Audrey and Grant knew they that at the end of the day, they would be husband and wife. They all prayed together before leaving for the ceremony at Summerall Chapel and it was an emotional moment no one will ever forget.

Portraits Round 2

A year later, on the day of the Schoonover 2.0, the entire gang reunited to celebrate a year of love with Audrey and Grant. We had the best time roaming the streets of Charleston documenting the continuation of this amazing love story. The bridal party was in full swing cheering mode which set the energy for this Charleston Merchants Hall reception. It was one huge celebration!

Merchant Hall Wedding Reception

Audrey and Grant entered their reception to a roar of applause. They watched their gorgeous wedding film by @elephantmemoriesweddingfilms from last year with their reception guests.  I had to keep hiding in a corner to wipe the tears. First dances, sentimental toasts and lots and lots of dancing made this wedding reception one for the books! It was such a fun celebration!

Audrey and Grant, I secretly am so happy that I got to celebrate y’all twice! Spending the last 2 years celebrating your love has been such an honor. Mr & Mrs Schoonover, Happy 1 Year Anniversary!! And cheers to many years to come! PS, can we make this a yearly tradition?
